For 2 Witnesses:

A man & his dog.

paper, paint, wax, sculpture, silk, note, missed connections, scans, found objects, canvas

2024-2025

Through collage (expansively) I’ve explored the potential relationships of a man and his dog to the suicide they witnessed of my mother on a winter day in a park. Through speculation, I fabulate who he might have been, who is dog could have been, their reactions, directions, temporality, and even how much they witnessed. With extremely limited information, I consider what it means to witness: it it enough to witness the aftermath? If he heard the gunshot, was he a witness? Was his presence being in the right place at the right time, the wrong place at the wrong time? Using found images, found objects, paint I’ve obsessively iterated and re-iterated the forms this man’s presence may have taken. In reappropriating a series of craigslist Missed Connection titles into a poem I’ve created a meta-missed connected that will similarly likely never reach their recipient.

“Missed Man / Don’t know… / Lost Contact / Still looking / Looking for any witnesses / […] / Hope ur ok. / Thanks for saying hello / Good luck “
